Our God of Abundantly More

October 26, 2021 will forever be a day in the life of Mercy House where we saw so many stand up and proclaim through their donations and pledges that they care deeply about the people of West Montgomery. It was God’s day and for His glory as people heard His call to come alongside the work being done both at Mercy House and the MAP Center. Their generosity has spoken volumes about the heart of Montgomerey and beyond. This Telethon brought people together to a united goal that we can make a difference in the lives of those that have once been forgotten. Our Day of Dreams Telethon is an exciting example of what the Lord can do when people decide to make a lasting impact on their community. But this display of God’s goodness is just the beginning of what the Lord wants to do for His children in Washington Park.

The Lord has blessed us with a foothold here on Council street. He has allowed us to be His hands and feet to those that are in need. He has used so many of His servants to support the work God is doing here and for that we are incredibly grateful. And now God is calling us to take another step in faith to more intentionally redirect lives towards one that has purpose. We know that October 26th was just the beginning of what God wants to do in this community.

Ephesians 3:20 promises that “20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” We are claiming this verse and many others that proclaim the power of God and His love for all His people. Because we have seen that God can and wants to do immeasurably more through this ministry, we are more passionate than ever about reaching the least and the lost. Now is not the time to slow down or take a break. We must press on in word and deed toward the goal of walking people out of poverty.

So it is with a God-sized faith that I tell you that we are just getting started in this war on poverty. We know that the Lord has so much more for His people here and is using us to bring hope and the Gospel to those who know neither. We also know it won’t be easy. Poverty is complicated. But we have just seen what can happen when we come together in the name of Jesus to fulfil God’s greatest commandment - “Love your neighbor as yourself”. This last week has been so full of praise to both the Lord and to those that wanted to be a part of our Day of Dreams but we are back to the work God has called us to. We take our calling to serve the poor seriously. How can we not? People are in need and souls are at stake.

God Bless,

Pastor Ken Austin
