Welcome to the Front Porch

Today we are excited to announce the launch of The Front Porch!

The Front Porch is the Mercy House ministry email newsletter. It’s a once-monthly time for us to share what is happening at the Mercy House, the Pathway House, and the work being done on Council Street.

Why “The Front Porch?”

Historically, the front porch holds great significance in our country. The Department of American Studies at the University of Virginia chronicles the history of the American front porch and notes that the front porch represented the American ideal of community. Historically, “the front porch existed as a zone between the public and private, an area that could be shared between the sanctity of the home and the community outside. It was an area where interaction with the community could take place. The porch further fostered a sense of community and neighborliness.” In the evenings, as families ventured outside for children to play in the yard and parents to rest in rocking chairs, the front porch served as a place for people to connect with each other and with their community.

We want the opportunity to connect with our neighbors and for our neighbors to connect with us. We want a time to share with you what is going on in our house and to discuss the happenings of the neighborhood.

We want a front porch.

And while you’re always welcome to visit our actual front porch, our digital front porch will also be open to our friends and neighbors, starting September 1, 2020.

To stop by our front porch once-a-month, you can sign up for our email newsletter below.

We’ll see you there.

God Bless,
Pastor Ken Austin
